Masterminds of Construction
In December 2016, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) launched ‘Masterminds of Construction’, an in-depth news and current affairs-style programme. The aim of the programme is to generate a greater understanding about the value of construction and to explore the career opportunities available to young people in the industry.
Introduced by newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, ‘Masterminds of Construction’ focuses on the work of the individuals and teams who drive change and strive for excellence within construction management.
Launched alongside the new CIOB Academy, the programme explores the exciting and diverse range of careers available in construction management. With a growing population, CIOB believe it is vital to look at solutions for the future and the new talent that will craft the urban landscapes of tomorrow. The programme explains that there is a vast array of opportunities available to women and men who want to make a difference to the world around them.
It features companies embracing cutting edge technologies and students taking advantage of on-the-job education. It examines why the industry wants greater diversity and looks at transforming views about how the industry is perceived by those who work in it, as well as by the general public.
Simon Shelley, Head of Industry News, ITN Productions said:
“We’re delighted to have partnered with the Chartered Institute of Building to create ‘Masterminds of Construction’, designed to explore the enthralling and demanding role of construction managers. The focus is on the future of construction technology and innovation in the way projects are delivered. We also look at the challenges this extraordinary sector faces, including the need for new talent and why skills shortage remains an issue.
We hope that the leaders in construction, and beyond, will engage with the programme and use it as a means to share ideas and stimulate discussion.”
Chris Blythe, Chief Executive at the CIOB said:
“Our partnership with ITN Productions is about creating inspiring films with the industry. Masterminds of Construction reveals why a career in construction is a career for people who want to tackle the big issues. It’s quite easy to under-appreciate the industry’s full impact, but once your eyes are opened to it you can see its influence across society. We are delighted to help tell these exciting stories and thank those who took part to make it happen.”
